A note from the Editor's desk

The purpose of this newsletter is to inform the membership of some recent updates. First, we are pleased to announce the officers elected at the 10/3/07 meeting. A special thanks for your willingness to give of your time and talent. Second, there are several important changes to the HMRS schedule for 2007-08. The schedule for this year is available here. Especially note the change of date for the Fall recital. Instead it will be held in February as a Winter recital. Third, a listing of chapter members for 2007-2008 is available for members.

Officers for 2007-2008

President - Ole Christensen
Treasurer - Carol Turner
Secretary - Allen Lescak
Meeting Facility - Darleen Koreman
Librarian - Lee Danielson
Webmaster - Sandy Lawrence
Appointed position Chairman of Workshop Committee - Lee Danielson

The membership extends a hearty ‘Thank You!’ to both Darleen Koreman and Emmy Grubb for many years of service as Chapter President and Treasurer. We appreciate all you have done to keep the chapter on stable administrative and fiscal ground.

Scholarship

Scholarship money provided by the Adirondack Baroque Consort Scholarship Fund is available for active members of the Chapter. Weeklong, weekend, or one-day workshops of early music or recorder playing are eligible. For Scholarship information, contact Jutta Von Schwerin or Sue Wright.

Dues Reminder

Contact Carol Turner, Chapter Treasurer. Local dues remain at $15. Please make checks payable to the ‘Hudson Mohawk Recorder Chapter of the ARS.’ At this time, national dues have been sent to the ARS. Members may individually renew.

Music at the Pruyn House

As in past years, groups are invited to participate in the Holiday Open House on Sun Dec 2 from 12:00 to 4:00. It is a fun event and provides an opportunity for us to showcase our talents. At the Oct 17 meeting, the Corelli Clash, Sweetbriar II Consort and Crow Hill Consort expressed an interest. Ole will coordinate and post the times.

Workshop Committee News

Jutta and Darleen volunteered to work with Lee on organizing this year’s workshop. Sue will also be asked to coordinate the Eddy facility. This has been a successful event for the past several years, well supported by chapter membership. Please forward your suggestions to Lee.

Music Library

Use of the music library for personal or consort use is encouraged. Current rules of library use are as follows:
  1. Only members of the Chapter may check out music and other materials.
  2. Music must be signed out on the sign out form.
  3. Duration of loan is 2-3 months.
  4. Music should be returned to Lee Danielson at any meeting.
All questions should be directed to Lee.

President's Corner

To gather ideas for this column, I perused back issues of the American Recorder Chapters & Consorts section. While other chapters have many of the activities we host – workshops, performances, guest conductors - I feel we may be unique in that we possess a rich musical library. Thanks to Lee for his organizational skills and to all who have, and will continue, to be contributors. With that in mind, I am presenting a challenge to one of our member coaches - to prepare and coach music solely from our library.

- Ole Christensen, Pres.
