A note from the Editor's desk

We did everything in our power to "Drive the Cold Winter Away" with an energized and equally ambitions push toward Spring. While the cold remained, perhaps we didn't mind as much since we had a lot of musical opportunities to keep our mind off these dank and dismal days. To briefly recap this winter's events: a February recital, 3 Colonie Center mall playing sessions, 3 Museum recitals, 1 potluck PTR dinner plus our regular meetings. Thanks to all who participated, a big effort - well appreciated and well received. Thanks, too, for contributing comments about your experiences - all are valuable in planning for future events.

Spring 2008 Workshop

When: Saturday, April 26, 2008
Time: 9:00am to 4:30pm
Where: The Glen Eddy, 1 Glen Eddy Dr., Niskayuna, NY (518)280-8000
We are fortunate to have as our workshop leader Sheila Beardslee. Sheila has taught recorder, orther instruments and dance for early music societies and workshops. She directs a number of ensembles and has led performance/study tours to Italy.
Additional information may be obtained from Lee Danielson.
Thanks to Lee and his committee for their fine work in planning this event.

Scholarship

Scholarship money provided by the Adirondack Baroque Consort Scholarship Fund is available for active members of the Chapter. Weeklong, weekend, or one-day workshops of early music or recorder playing are eligible. For Scholarship information, contact Jutta Von Schwerin or Sue Wright.

Regular Meetings

There are still a number of meetings remaining:
Thurs 4/3/08 - Marty Lepow and Ole Christensen
Wed 4/16/08 - Herbert Sanderson and Maggie Brand
Thurs 5/1/08 - Ann Githler
Wed 5/21/08 - Will and Nancy Crowther

Spring Recital

The first meeting in June - Thurs 6/5/08 - will be our Spring recital. Whether solo, small group or large group, we very much look forward to your musical contributions. Feel free to invite friends and family. We will serve refreshments after the recital so please plan on bringing something to share.

Picnic

The end-of-year picnic will be held Wed 6/18/08. As in past years, it will be potluck, everyone is invited to bring their favorite dish to share. At the next meeting, a picnic coordinator will be appointed. Let that person know what you will bring whether dishes or paper products and drinks. Also, please let him/her know how many will be attending in order to plan food and prepare the facilities.
Joe Loux will be directing that night following the picnic.

New Members

Pleased to note that we have also added several new members increasing our average meeting attendance. Welcome aboard!

Music Library

Use of the music library for personal or consort use is encouraged. Current rules of library use are as follows:
  1. Only members of the Chapter may check out music and other materials.
  2. Music must be signed out on the sign out form.
  3. Duration of loan is 2-3 months.
  4. Music should be returned to Lee Danielson at any meeting.
All questions should be directed to Lee.
Music of the chapter library will be available at the Spring Workshop.

President's Corner

I think, as we enter the last quarter of our playing year, that programs and activities have been going well under the new constitution. I have been keeping attendance records and I am also beginning to keep information about each session, so that we can refer back to the meetings and get ideas on how to improve based on the needs and opinions of the members from each meeting. This year we are averaging 11 members per meeting and also have a number of new members. Let's keep up the good work.

- Ole Christensen, President
